His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has signed royal decrees to establish more regional courts of appeal in Cambodia's provinces of Thbong Khmum, Battambang and Preah Sihanouk.
The three courts of appeal are expected to put for official use on April 1, 2020, according to H.E. Chin Malin, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Justice, as quoted in the local media, adding that their existence will increase the number of such court in the country to four.
The establishment of more courts of appeal reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts in reforming of justice system, the spokesperson continued.
He added that, those courts of appeal will play a crucial role in promoting more accessible judicial services to the locals.
Beside the regional courts of appeal, the Ministry of Justice has also planned to establish specialised courts, including business and labour ones.
Cambodia has only criminal and civil courts, so the ministry is considering the establishment of the business and labour courts and they will be ready for service in a near future.
There are currently 24 capital and provincial courts in the country, and the establishment of the last provincial court in Kep is on its to-do list.
