Two Cambodians Plan to Meet Pope Francis

Two Cambodians, Venerable San Sochea and Neak Oknha Quach Mengly are going to meet with Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, the bishop of Rome and sovereign of the Vatican City State.

They will meet Pope Francis and various Cardinals who are interested to learn more about the commitment of Cambodian Buddhist leaders for the environment.

The meeting scheduled for Jan. 17-22 was intended to promote religious leadership and cooperation for social good.

His Majesty the late King-Father, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, was the first Cambodian dignitary to meet with the Pope at Vatican in 1950.

After that, Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda visited the Pope in 1986 to discuss post-civil war peace in Cambodia.
