UN Rapporteur Appreciates Cambodia’s Judicial Progress

United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia Ms. Rhona Smith has appreciated the Kingdom’s efforts and positive progress in judicial services.

The visiting UN rapporteur expressed the appreciation when meeting with Cambodia’s Minister of Justice H.E. Ang Vong Vathana here in Phnom Penh yesterday, according to the ministry’s Spokesperson H.E. Chin Malin.

Ms. Rhona Smith congratulated new mechanism of the government in establishing the Samdech Hun Sen Legal Team primarily focusing on disadvantaged Cambodians, especially women.

From his side, H.E. Ang Vong Vathana updated the UN delegation on other endeavours by the ministry in facilitating access to lawyers among the poor.

He also highlighted the improving detention services as well as other judicial progress made by the government.
