WFP to Distribute Food Assistance to Poor Households in Five Provinces

The World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) will distribute milled rice and vegetable oil to vulnerable households in five provinces of Cambodia.

According to its recent press release, approximately 82,700 poor households adversely affected by COVID-19 crisis, will receive the assistance to be dispatched from June 30 to July 30.

The provinces that the support will cover include Siem Reap, Pursat, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, and Oddar Meanchey.

Due to school closure since mid-March, around 224,000 children in the target schools of WFP have not received any breakfast to support their nutrition that will subsequently help them with their study.

WFP together with MoEYS, distributed a first round of food distribution to 80,767 children from households registered with IDPoor and supported MoEYS in similar distribution to 11,506 more children in schools with national school feeding programmes implemented.

As the demand for food is high among vulnerable households and students during the COVID-19 crisis, WFP and MoEYS are organising the second round of food distribution in the aforementioned five provinces.
