The World Health Organisation has praised the efforts of Cambodia in preventing and containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“I seize this opportunity to commend the efforts of your Government to contain the pandemic. A special appreciation also goes to the public health workers on the frontline of this fight against COVID-19. Once again, I wish to indulge your continuing political leadership, your personal engagement and role,” wrote Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General in his recent letter to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
“I have the honour to thank you for our letter of April 10, 2020 conveying your kind words of support and commitment to the call of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to join the global efforts to limit the scale, the impact and finally to stop the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said. “I am delighted to learn that your Government has taken acute actions to operationalise the recently launched WHO’s COVID-19 Global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan.”
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also reaffirmed WHO’s readiness to collaborate with Cambodia in combating the deadly disease. “WHO at its global, regional and country levels, stands ready to continue its work with Cambodia, as well as partners at large, in this fight against this common threat posed by COVID-19, for us to be forearmed against any future proliferations. Together, and in solidarity, we will prevail,” underlined the WHO director-general.
