WIPO Appreciates Cambodia’s Development

Visiting H.E. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), has lauded and congratulated Cambodia on its rapid development.

While paying a courtesy visit to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, H.E. Daren Tang said he had visited Cambodia many times and each time he witnessed the country’s rapid development, H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier told reporters after the meeting.

H.E. Daren Tang informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen of WIPO’s work and said that his visit to Cambodia this time is to attend an ASEAN ministerial meeting and to learn more about which area WIPO can provide its assistance for Cambodia.

In reply, Samdech Techo Prime Minister asked WIPO to help Cambodia in registration of its GI crops.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared with the WIPO director general about his remarks on increasing regional trade, for example the trade between Cambodia-Vietnam, Cambodia-Thailand and Cambodia-Laos, during the COVID-19 crisis, which reflects the active operation of ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA).

He also noticed that the war in Ukraine is one thing, but excessive sanctions lead to economic crisis not only in Europe, but also in other countries, including Cambodia.
