WTO Sends Letter of Appreciation to Cambodia

Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) H.E. Zurab Pololikashvili has sent a letter of appreciation to Samdech Akk Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, over the responsible resumption of domestic tourism.

“Please allow me to express my great appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the very active and effective measures it has taken against the COVID 19 outbreak. UNWTO also takes this opportunity to wish all Cambodian people safe and health during this Khmer New Year Holiday, which though traditionally celebrated in April, was postponed in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic,” he wrote in his letter dated recently.

“We are very delighted to see that Cambodia has gradually restarted its domestic tourism in a controlled manner and has put in place all the necessary safety and hygiene protocols as well as the requisite guidelines at tourism sites. This responsible restart is highly recommended by UNWTO,” he added.

“As you are aware, UNWTO is facilitating the reopening of tourism in cooperation with member countries and international organisations through the development of guidelines and recommendations for a safe and responsible restart tourism activities. And we are very grateful to Cambodia for being a part of this effort which duly reflects its active involvement in UNWTO’s activities during these difficult times,” H.E. Zurab  Pololikashvili said.

“Once again, UNWTO is highly appreciative of Your Excellency’s able leadership that always puts people’s safety and well-being first; and I am confident that this New Year holiday will contribute to facilitating a safe and responsible restart of tourism in Cambodia,” said the UNWTO secretary-general.
