Kaloula mediolineata Smith, 1917 is a new amphibian found in Phnom Kulen National Park, according to Cambodian Journal of Natural History.
"One of the species, Kaloula mediolineata Smith, 1917, represents a new country record for Cambodia. Our analyses of stomach contents provide the ?rst insight into the feeding ecology of several species", said a group of local and international natural conservationists who made the discovery in their research.
This finding is the ?rst long term survey of amphibians and reptiles in a Cambodian protected area outside the Cardamom Mountains. It shows the second highest number of species recorded nationally when compared with available data for other protected areas in Cambodia.
Previous report said there were in total 86 species (25 amphibians and 61 reptiles) and data on their natural history were collected.
Covering an area of 37,373, Phnom Kulen National Park is situated in north-central Cambodia, approximately 50 kilometres north of Siem Reap provincial town. It was established as a national park in 1993 by a royal decree and is under the management of the Ministry of Environment, although areas of archaeological value are managed by the APSARA Authority.
