The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) and the Japan Foundation’s Phnom Penh Liaison Office, will be hosting a series of Orchestral Concerts, featuring the Worldship Orchestra (WSO), between Sept. 15 and 17, 2023 at various venues in Phnom Penh.
The event is aimed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the friendship between Japan and Cambodia, said the embassy in a press release AKP received this evening.
According to the source, the WSO is a project of NPO Worldship, a non-profit organisation founded in Tokyo in November 2014 with the aim of providing children around the world with their “first orchestral experience”. The project has two objectives: to implement an overseas performance programme providing children across Asia, who do not have the opportunity to receive an education in music or the opportunity to watch live musical performances, with the chance to gain an interest in, and experience playing, music; and to support overseas youth orchestras.
This is not the first time that the WSO will be performing in Cambodia, but this time is a very special one, as the concerts will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of the friendship between Japan and Cambodia.
“We hope that participants will enjoy the orchestral music and, through this, will feel closer to Japan. We also hope that the concerts will help those that attend gain a deeper understanding of the friendly relationship that exists between the two countries,” underlined the embassy.
