APF Political Committee Meeting Kicks Off in Siem Reap Province

Siem reap: The Political Committee Meeting of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) commenced in Siem Reap province, gathering representatives from APF member delegations alongside national and international experts. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the opening ceremony was led by H.E. Ouch Borith, Acting President of the Senate and Chairman of the Cambodian Parliamentary Group to the APF, and H.E. Cheang Vun, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Auditing, and Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Parliamentary Group to the APF. The assembly also saw the attendance of H.E. Guillaume Chevrollier, Chairman of the APF Political Committee and Senator of France, along with Francophone parliamentarians from 15 countries, representatives of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), and senior officials from the General Secretariats of the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly. The meeting, scheduled from May 3 to 4, centers on comprehensi ve discussions on critical strategic matters. The agenda includes a review of previous decisions made at the Paris meeting in July 2025, discussions on human rights and legal issues focusing on the death penalty in French-speaking countries, and evaluations of political stability within the Francophone region. Additionally, the meeting aims to discuss the APF's role in maintaining regional and global stability and highlight the importance of peace as a driving force for sustainable development. The Cambodian National Assembly emphasized that hosting this meeting underscores the active role of the Cambodian Parliament in promoting peace and international cooperation among French-speaking nations, while also highlighting Siem Reap's prominence on the international stage.
