ASEAN Observer Team Evaluates Situation at Techo Morakot Health Centre in Preah Vihear

Phnom penh: The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Tuesday coordinated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to observe, verify and report on the situation at Techo Morakot Health Centre in Techo Morakot village, Morakot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear Province. The visit began at 9:30 a.m. and was led by the Head of Mission of AOT-KH from the Philippines.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued by the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia clarified that the health centre is not a military site but a public healthcare facility serving the local population. The Ministry reported that in December 2025, the facility was attacked by Thai military forces using aerial bombardment from F-16 fighter jets, 155mm artillery shells, cluster munitions, and multiple drone strikes, resulting in significant destruction and extensive damage to the health centre and surrounding infrastructure.

The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm and sincere commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) issued on December 27, 2025. Additionally, they emphasized adherence to the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on October 26, 2025, along with all other relevant agreements. The Ministry stressed that this commitment aims at ensuring rapid recovery, restoring normalcy, and promoting long-lasting peace and stability.
