ASEAN Observer Team Visits Cambodia-Thailand Border for Verification Mission

Banteay Meanchey:The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) conducted a field visit to the Cambodia-Thailand border at Boundary Pillar No. 27, facilitated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG). This visit took place in Thmar Romiel Lech village, Banteay Chmar commune, Thmar Puok district, at 10:10 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the purpose of the mission was to observe, verify, and report on the situation along the border, providing the AOT with a direct understanding of the conditions at the agreed boundary pillars between Cambodia and Thailand.

The visit emphasized the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to resolving border issues peacefully through dialogue and bilateral mechanisms. This approach adheres to international law, existing bilateral agreements, and the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

Cambodia's stance on maintaining the international boundary line, inherited from the Commission of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, remains firm. The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence cites adherence to international law, the principle of the inviolability of frontiers (Uti Possidetis Juris), the Franco-Siamese Conventions and Treaties, and relevant boundary protocols and maps.

The Ministry also references the Proc¨s-Verbaux of meetings and agreements between Indo-China and Siam, the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the 2003 Terms of Reference (TOR), and other documents aimed at peacefully resolving disputes and attaining lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand.
