Phnom penh: Cambodia and Austria have pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a focus on trade, economy, and investment, during a meeting between the Cambodian Acting Head of State and the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Cambodia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen welcomed the new Ambassador, H.E. Katharina Wieser, who presented her Letters of Credence at the Solidarity Palace of the Senate. Hun Sen acknowledged Austria as a valued partner, emphasizing that Ambassador Wieser's swift assumption of duty reflects Austria's commitment to enhancing relations with Cambodia.
Ambassador Wieser expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to work closely with Cambodian institutions to advance cooperation. She noted the 70 years of diplomatic relations since 1956, characterized by mutual trust and engagement. The ambassador highlighted opportunities to expand beyond political dialogue, focusing on economic, trade, and investment ties. She announced that around ten Austrian companies are expected to visit Cambodia soon to explore investment opportunities.
Samdech Techo welcomed Austria's interest in economic cooperation and supported increased Austrian investment. He emphasized that stronger business exchanges would significantly contribute to long-term bilateral relations.
The meeting also covered regional and global issues, with Samdech Techo briefing the ambassador on Cambodia's efforts to maintain peace and stability, particularly with Thailand, through legal and diplomatic channels.
Before concluding, Samdech Techo Hun Sen wished Ambassador Wieser success in her mission, expressing confidence that her tenure would further bolster cooperation and friendship between Cambodia and Austria.
