Cambodia and Canada Strengthen Bilateral Relations in Preparation for 2026 Francophonie Summit

Phnom penh: Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, engaged in bilateral talks with H.E. Alan Bowman, Director General for Southeast Asia and Oceania at Global Affairs Canada. The meeting took place during Bowman's working visit to Cambodia for the Second Cambodia-Canada Bilateral Consultations in Phnom Penh.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn welcomed Alan Bowman with satisfaction over the positive momentum in relations between the two countries. He noted the successful outcomes of the first round of bilateral consultations and expressed confidence that the second round would enhance cooperation and yield tangible results.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged Canada's support for Cambodia's hosting of the 2026 Francophonie Summit and provided updates on the event preparations. H.E. Alan Bowman expressed hope that the consultations would further expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. He reaffirmed Canada's strong support for the Summit, highlighting the Canadian leadership's commitment to attending the event in Phnom Penh.

Bowman also discussed Canada's willingness to share its experience in hosting international events to aid Cambodia in organizing a successful Summit. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on recent developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, where Prak Sokhonn updated the Canadian side and thanked Canada for its support toward a peaceful resolution.
