Cambodia and Philippines Celebrate Progress in Bilateral Relations

Phnom penh: Cambodia and the Philippines have shown appreciation for the progress in their bilateral relations, with both nations expressing confidence in further deepening cooperation across various sectors ahead of their 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. The assessment was highlighted during a farewell meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Ms. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, the outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Cambodia.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting took place at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, where Ambassador Mayo acknowledged Cambodia's achievements across all sectors and expressed satisfaction with the advancement of Cambodia-Philippines relations. She highlighted the close cooperation between the two countries in areas including economy and trade, education, vocational training, agriculture, culture, defense, and security.

The diplomat also commended the Royal Government of Cambodia for its measures to combat online scam operations and praised the cooperation between the two countries in addressing this issue. Looking ahead to 2027, which will mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, Ambassador Mayo emphasized the opportunity for both nations to further strengthen their partnership. She reaffirmed that the ASEAN Observer Team, led by the Philippines, would continue its mission with transparency and neutrality.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador Mayo on her successful diplomatic mission in Cambodia and valued her contributions to the bilateral ties. The Prime Minister noted the potential for further cooperation, particularly in agriculture and tourism. He also praised the Philippines' role as ASEAN Chair in facilitating efforts to address the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, reiterating Cambodia's commitment to peaceful resolutions based on international law and existing agreements with Thailand.
