Cambodia and Thailand Establish Mechanisms for Ceasefire Implementation

Pailin: Cambodia and Thailand have outlined mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of a ceasefire that will come into effect at noon on December 27, 2025. Both countries have agreed to utilize the Cambodia-Thailand and Thailand-Cambodia Border Coordination Units to sustain the ceasefire, manage on-the-ground situations, and address incidents promptly. This effort will be under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), as detailed in the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting. The meeting was signed by H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, and his Thai counterpart H.E. Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit, at the Prom-Pak Kard Permanent Border Checkpoint between Pailin province of Cambodia and Chanthaburi province of Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Joint Statement acknowledged the critical role of the AOT and both sides agreed to enhance its functions. This will be done in consultation with the ASEAN Chair and the AOT to verify and ensure the effective implementation of all measures in the statement. The two nations will maintain regular communication between their Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Defence Forces to respond quickly to urgent situations that cannot be resolved locally. High-level representatives may also meet if necessary to manage issues effectively.

Moreover, the Joint Coordinating Task Force (JCTF) on Humanitarian Demining will notify local authorities on both sides to facilitate demining operations in prioritized border areas. These operations will follow Action Plans agreed by both parties to ensure smooth procedures without obstructions or misunderstandings.

Additionally, official media teams from both countries will maintain regular communication to effectively prevent and manage misinformation and disinformation. They will work to ensure transparency and accuracy in news reporting to build mutual trust.
