Cambodia and Trkiye Aim to Strengthen Economic Ties with $1 Billion Trade Goal

Accra:Trkiye Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has urged business communities in Cambodia and Trkiye to collaborate in achieving a bilateral trade target of US$1 billion in the coming years. This call was made during the Cambodia-Trkiye Business Forum in Trkiye, an event co-organized by the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce, Trkiye's Foreign Economic Relations Board, and the Ministry of Trade of Trkiye.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the growth in bilateral trade by 2025 indicates strong momentum towards reaching this US$1 billion target. Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral mechanisms such as the Cambodia-Trkiye Joint Economic Commission, the Cambodia-Trkiye Business Council, and the Commercial Office of the Turkish Embassy, which are crucial for regular dialogue and addressing trade and investment barriers.

Hun Manet highlighted the importance of government-to-government relations in providing legal and institutional frameworks, while the business community drives the expansion of economic ties. He encouraged ministries, investment promotion agencies, and chambers of commerce from both countries to connect business partners, share market information, and support investment projects.

The Prime Minister also advised businesses to diversify products, enhance business networks, and link Trkiye's industrial capabilities with Cambodia's manufacturing base and agricultural resources. Turkish investors were invited to explore opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, transport, logistics, renewable energy, digital technology, and sustainable tourism, which could offer long-term economic benefits for both nations.

At the forum's conclusion, Hun Manet witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Trkiye's Foreign Economic Relations Board, aiming to boost business and investment cooperation. In 2025, trade between Cambodia and Trkiye reached about US$400 million, marking an 18 percent increase from 2024.
