Cambodia and U.S. Celebrate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Cultural Event in Siem Reap

Siem reap: The Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, marking a significant milestone in their continuing partnership.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event was held at Kravan Temple in Siem Reap province to reflect on the achievements of their historic bilateral partnership and to celebrate the strength of their current relationship. The U.S. Embassy highlighted initiatives that support and preserve Cambodia's cultural heritage in a statement about the event.

H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, and Ms. Bridgette Walker, Charg© d'Affaires a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, attended the celebration. Representatives from the World Monuments Fund, National Authority for Preah Vihear, National APSARA Authority, and National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk also participated.

The reception emphasized the enduring people-to-people ties that have developed over the past 75 years and the U.S. commitment to cultural heritage preservation, including the repatriation of looted artifacts to Cambodia. The U.S. has contributed over US$6 million to support the preservation of Cambodia's cultural treasures, from the temples of Angkor to traditional dance and music.

Charg© d'Affaires Walker highlighted that the preservation of sites like Angkor and Preah Vihear is a testament to the collaborative achievements between the two nations. These monuments are seen as symbols of Cambodia's identity and the U.S.-Cambodia friendship aims to protect these treasures for future generations, including the many American tourists who visit Siem Reap annually.

The reception also underscored the U.S. dedication to supporting Cambodia's development and prosperity, particularly in the northern provinces. The statement concluded with a commitment to continue working together for a future of shared prosperity, peace, and progress, honoring the past and inspiring future generations.
