Phnom penh: The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and the United Nations in Cambodia have reaffirmed their partnership in mine action in Cambodia. The commitment was made during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA, and Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both sides emphasized their commitment to strengthening their partnership and cooperation on mine action in Cambodia. H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch praised the United Nations for its significant contribution to supporting the peace process and socio-economic recovery in the Kingdom. He recalled the UN's support in the resettlement of refugees, demining efforts, and building national capacity for mine action, which have been pivotal to Cambodia's current success.
H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch regarded the United Nations as an important voice and partner in promoting, enhancing, and supporting Cambodia's efforts in mine action. He also expressed gratitude to friendly countries and other development partners for their contributions and support to the mine action sector. Furthermore, he appreciated the role of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) in promoting solidarity, unity, and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve sustainable growth and a shared destiny.
In addition, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch reaffirmed Cambodia's stance on resolving disputes with Thailand peacefully through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, based on respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.
