Cambodia and World Bank Collaborate on Investment and Competitiveness

Phnom penh: Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, held a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Mr. Ramprakash Sethuramasubbu, Private Sector Development Specialist, and Mr. Quan Zhao, Senior Program Manager, at the CDC. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, both parties emphasized their successful past cooperation, notably the World Bank's recent role in enhancing Cambodia's private sector competitiveness. This was achieved through collaboration on the WTO Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement (IFDA), in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC). The discussions also covered the results of a needs assessment workshop intended to prepare for the IFDA's implementation. The focus was on thoroughly examining the agreement and identifying sector-specific requirements to ensure its effective execution. H.E. Deputy Prime Minister praised the workshop's organization and sought detailed explanati ons from the World Bank experts to help the Royal Government develop frameworks and policies aligned with global trends. He encouraged ongoing cooperation from all stakeholders and requested continued World Bank support to further enhance Cambodia's logistics and international trade sectors. In response, the World Bank representatives affirmed their commitment to working with the Royal Government to transform Cambodia into a competitive logistics hub in the region. Before concluding, both parties agreed that, given global uncertainties, careful consideration of investment facilitation is crucial to maintaining investor confidence and encouraging further investment in Cambodia.
