Battambang: Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has declared Cambodia's intention to bolster and invest in the domestic production of military equipment and materials. This initiative aims to support the national defence sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Hun Sen emphasized the importance of self-reliance in military capabilities during his inspection visit to a military equipment manufacturing facility in Battambang province. He stated, "We must have the capability to produce military equipment to supply our armed forces and law enforcement agencies." He further insisted that Cambodia's self-strengthening efforts will prevent any external disparagement of the nation.
In response to reports concerning China's military assistance to Cambodia, Samdech Techo clarified that such cooperation should not be perceived as a threat. He pointed out that it is common for nations to procure military aircraft and defence equipment from abroad to bolster their defence capabilities, asserting that Cambodia's actions are a legitimate exercise of its right to self-defence.
Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia's military strategy is non-aggressive, highlighting the country's historical commitment to non-invasion and peaceful conflict resolution. He noted that Cambodian militants stationed abroad are primarily engaged in peacekeeping missions.
Addressing border issues, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia's dedication to resolving disputes peacefully, adhering to internationally recognised laws, agreements, and legal documents.
