Cambodia Calls for Innovation and Human-Centric AI Governance at Shanghai Conference

Shanghai: Cambodia joined over 40 countries at the recent 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, China, voicing support for inclusive, ethical, and collaborative AI development.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, leading the Cambodian delegation, H.E. Dr. Hul Seingheng, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI), outlined Cambodia's commitment to building a future-ready digital economy by integrating AI into industry, SMEs, and all socio-economic sectors. 'Our efforts focus on building full-bodied digital infrastructure, promoting AI integration, and nurturing a technology-friendly policy environment,' he said.

Addressing the conference, H.E. Seingheng also emphasized Cambodia's priorities for global AI governance, including investment in human capital, regional fellowships, ethical AI use, and cross-border research collaboration. 'Cambodia stands ready to deepen international cooperation as an active partner for shared prosperity,' he added.

At the high-level meeting, H.E. Yin Hejun, Minister of Science and Technology of China, introduced China's Global AI Governance Initiative as a step toward a shared future. 'We actively embrace intelligent change. and promote the development of AI with a highly responsible attitude to better benefit mankind,' he stated.

The conference highlighted the urgency and necessity of balancing innovation with safety, fairness, and shared values, with Cambodia reaffirming its openness to international partnerships to build an inclusive global AI ecosystem.
