Phnom penh: The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has strongly rejected accusations from the Thai side, which allege that Cambodian forces have targeted civilian areas. The claims have been labeled as false information and distortions of the truth by Cambodian officials.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, emphasized in a statement that Cambodia's actions are focused solely on military targets that threaten its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. She reiterated that Cambodia's right to self-defense is directed only at Thai military targets that invade and violate their borders.
The spokeswoman further accused the Thai military of intentionally attacking areas where Cambodian civilians live, including civilian infrastructure such as homes, bridges, roads, schools, and hospitals. These assaults, reportedly using heavy weaponry like fighter jets, cluster bombs, and toxic gas, have led to the deaths of 11 Cambodian civilians, including an infant, and injuries to 59 others as of December 14, 2025.
Lt. Gen. Socheata also highlighted Cambodia's commitment to honoring the terms of the Ceasefire Agreement and the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, along with all previously established agreements. She stressed that Cambodia aims to resolve disputes through peaceful means, adhering to international law, treaties, conventions, and agreements, in order to achieve solutions that are just, fair, and long-lasting.
