Phnom penh: The Cambodia national rugby team departed Phnom Penh on Jan. 28 for Singapore to compete in the SEA 7s tournament, scheduled to take place on Jan. 30.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the competition has attracted eight national teams from the ASEAN region, divided into two groups. Cambodia is placed in Group B alongside host nation Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei.
H.E. Lun Samdy, President of the Cambodia Rugby Federation, stated that this marks Cambodia's return to international competition after many years of absence and serves as a signal to all Cambodians that Cambodian rugby is back.
Regarding the development of rugby in Cambodia, he mentioned that the federation plans to organise the national championship in February, with the participation of teams from Phnom Penh, various provinces, and several organisations. The competition will include both senior and youth categories.
