Cambodia Praises Malaysia’s Role in Mediating Border Dispute with Thailand

Cambodia: Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn has lauded Malaysia for its pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire and facilitating a peaceful resolution to long-standing border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Deputy Prime Minister's comments were made during a pull-aside meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, H.E. Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, on Jan. 28, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat held in Cebu, Philippines.

During the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed Cambodia's high regard for Kuala Lumpur's diplomatic intervention, noting that Malaysia's mediation was instrumental in de-escalating the border conflict and steering both nations toward a peaceful settlement.

The Cambodian top diplomat also extended his congratulations to Malaysia for its very fruitful outcomes as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, which have significantly contributed to regional stability and growth.
