Phnom Penh:Cambodia is intensifying its preparations to host the 20th Francophonie Summit, set for November 2026. The event in Phnom Penh will see the Kingdom serve as both host and chair, with participation expected from heads of state and government and delegations from around 90 countries.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, preparations have reached significant stages across multiple sectors. A national organising commission has been established by the Royal Government to coordinate the event, with support from the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and technical assistance from France.
The summit will take place under the theme 'Reinvest in Peace for Shared Prosperity and Lasting Stability,' highlighting Cambodia's peacebuilding experience and commitment to multilateral cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn recently chaired a meeting to review the summit's preparations, emphasizing the need to finalize arrangements in less than two months.
Two key accompanying events, the Francophonie Village and FrancoTech 2026, are planned. The Francophonie Village will showcase cultural and commercial exhibitions, while FrancoTech 2026 will focus on economic cooperation and digital innovation, involving more than 5,000 participants and 110 exhibition booths.
Cambodia is also preparing hospitality, security, and logistical arrangements for visiting dignitaries, with efforts including a Francophonie Fast Track service at Techo International Airport and the deployment of security forces at strategic locations.
Hosting the summit is an opportunity for Cambodia to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with the Francophone community and demonstrate its ability to host a major international event, underlining its cultural heritage and technological advancements.
