Phnom penh: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia (MFAIC) has lodged a formal strongest protest against Thailand regarding the unauthorised field visit by a group of foreign military attach©s and law enforcement officials, led by Chief Intelligence of Thai Army.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued this morning by the MFAIC detailed that the unauthorised field visit occurred at two hotels located in O'Smach district, Oddar Meanchey province of Cambodia on Feb. 2, 2026. The MFAIC emphasized that the visit was conducted without the consent of the Royal Government of Cambodia, constituting a violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Ministry highlighted that the hotels and grounds are located 397 metres from the international checkpoint of O'Smach, adjacent to border pillar No 15. This area has reportedly been under the control and occupation of Thailand's armed forces following an offensive between Dec. 7-27, 2025.
The press release further stated that Cambodia strongly objects to the actions of the Thai military forces, including the unauthorised visit, which it views as a violation of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter. The Cambodian government sees these actions as an attempt by Thailand to legitimise its occupation of Cambodian territory.
While rejecting Thailand's actions, the Royal Government of Cambodia expressed its commitment to resolving boundary disputes with Thailand and other neighbours through peaceful means in accordance with international law. Cambodia remains firm in its stance that borders should not be altered by force.
