Cambodia Protests Thai Gunfire Incident near O’Smach Border Checkpoint

O'smach: The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) on Sunday stated that Thai military forces fired 22 rounds of gunfire in the area of the O'Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, an official report from Military Region 4 of the RCAF detailed that the gunfire took place between 9:24 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. on May 24 within Cambodian territory. The area is currently under illegal occupation by Thai military forces.

The report further mentioned that the gunfire was unprovoked and originated from the Thai side. In response to the incident, Cambodia's Military Region 4 liaison team sent a formal protest letter to the liaison team of Thailand's Army Area 2. The letter urged the Thai authorities to verify the facts and implement measures to ensure strict troop discipline.

Cambodia also appealed to the Thai side to fully adhere to the Joint Statement of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025.
