Battambang:Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reiterated Cambodia's commitment to defending its territorial integrity according to the 1907 Franco-Siamese Treaty and the 1904 Franco-Siamese Convention.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during a graduation ceremony at the University of Management and Economics, the Prime Minister emphasized Cambodia's determination to uphold its legitimate rights under these historical treaties. The country aims to protect its territory through international law and diplomacy, asserting claims only to the land specified in these documents.
Though acknowledging Thailand's current occupation of some areas as illegal, Hun Manet stated that Cambodia would continue diplomatic efforts using mechanisms like the Joint Boundary Commission and the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding to resolve border disputes.
The Prime Minister expressed a desire for a swift resolution, underscoring Cambodia's preference for legal and diplomatic solutions over force. He highlighted that military occupation does not equate to legal ownership without recognition, emphasizing the nation's resolve to preserve its legal rights and pursue peaceful negotiations.
Hun Manet warned that without mutual agreement, disputes could persist indefinitely, stressing the role of international law and diplomatic mechanisms in achieving a lasting settlement.
