Phnom penh: Cambodia is seeking to elevate investment cooperation with China to a new level, focusing on advanced technology, stronger domestic supply chains, skills development, and green infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) H.E Sun Chanthol said.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Sun Chanthol emphasized China's role as an essential strategic partner during his keynote address at the Future Investment Conference 2026 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. The conference, held under the theme 'Global Investment for a Changing World', highlighted the expanding economic cooperation between Cambodia and China across key sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, tourism, and infrastructure.
The Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) have played significant roles in enhancing bilateral trade and investment by offering broader market access and strengthening regional supply chain resilience. Sun Chanthol expressed aspirations for future investment collaboration, focusing on advanced technologies, robust domestic supply chains, technical skills training, green infrastructure, and expanded opportunities for Cambodian citizens.
The Deputy Prime Minister further expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continued support, which has significantly contributed to the development of Cambodia's transportation and logistics infrastructure over the past two decades. He noted that Chinese-backed infrastructure investments, such as roads and bridges, connect farmers with markets, factories with ports, and businesses with customers, thereby improving connectivity and trade competitiveness.
China remains Cambodia's largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with US$1.5 billion in investment projects licensed by the CDC in the first seven months of 2026. Major Chinese-backed projects include factories producing medical packaging, tyres, auto parts, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as significant infrastructure projects like the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and Siem Reap International Airport.
During his visit, H.E. Sun Chanthol led a high-level Cambodian delegation and private sector representatives on an exhibition tour to exchange experiences, strengthen business networks, and gain insights into investment data and emerging technology trends. This tour is part of Cambodia's efforts to promote investment cooperation, absorb advanced technologies, and identify new opportunities to support the Kingdom's future economic development.
