Cambodia: The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a strong protest against Thailand over unlawful and repeated activities by Thai armed forces in border areas of Preah Vihear province. According to a press release issued this afternoon by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the incidents took place on April 4 in Sra Em commune, Choam Ksan district, near the Preah Vihear Temple area. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodian authorities reported that Thai troops carried out land-clearing operations north of Keo Sikha Kiri Svara Pagoda, installed approximately 100 metres of barbed wire, and deployed armoured personnel vehicles in the Bosbov-Choam Tae area. The Cambodian government stated that these actions are neither defensive in nature nor consistent with the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) meeting held on Dec. 27, 2025. Cambodia categorically rejected what it described as attempts to create a 'fait accompli' on the ground, stressing tha t such activities violate Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity under the 1904 Franco-Siamese Convention and the 1907 Treaty, as well as existing bilateral agreements. The statement reaffirmed that Cambodia does not recognise any boundary line or territorial claims unilaterally asserted by Thailand, and emphasised that the recent developments would not prejudice Cambodia's legal rights regarding its international borders. The Royal Government of Cambodia called on Thailand to immediately cease all such activities, refrain from further unilateral actions, and work toward de-escalating tensions, fostering mutual trust, and maintaining peace and good neighbourliness along the border. Cambodia reiterated its firm commitment to resolving all boundary issues with Thailand through peaceful means in accordance with international law and bilateral agreements, while maintaining its principled position that borders must not be changed by force.
