Cambodia Successfully Manages Wastewater to Protect Public Ecosystems

Phnom Penh:The Ministry of Environment in Cambodia has effectively prevented the discharge of 21,987,703 cubic meters of contaminated wastewater into public water sources during the first ten months of 2026. This achievement marks a significant advancement in safeguarding the country's ecosystems and public health.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the 'Clean Water Surface' campaign has been instrumental in managing a total of 42,061,976 cubic meters of treated wastewater discharge from January 2025 to October 2026, thereby preventing environmental pollution.

The ministry has utilized automated wastewater quality monitoring equipment to record these figures. This technology is crucial in monitoring and controlling wastewater discharges effectively. To enhance the efficiency of wastewater management, the Ministry of Environment has enforced laws that encourage factories and enterprises to install online automated monitoring systems. These systems transmit real-time data directly to the ministry's headquarters.

By October 2026, 75 companies and enterprises had voluntarily installed these automated wastewater discharge monitoring devices. The Ministry of Environment has expressed profound gratitude to all factory and enterprise owners for their cooperation in implementing the Environmental Circular Strategy, particularly its 'Clean' pillar.

Furthermore, the ministry has called on all relevant stakeholders to continue complying with and implementing environmental laws. This collective effort is aimed at improving environmental quality, protecting public health, and promoting sustainable development in Cambodia.
