Cambodia to Host ASEAN Disaster Management Meetings Next Week

Phnom penh: The National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) is set to host the 13th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM-13) and the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM-47) from October 13-17 in Phnom Penh. The meetings aim to strengthen cooperation and enhance the response capabilities of ASEAN member states to disaster emergencies within the region.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the opening ceremony is scheduled for October 16 at the Peace Palace, with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presiding. The meetings will be chaired by H.E. Kitti Sangahapundit Kun Kim, who serves as Senior Minister, First Vice President of NCDM, and Chair of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management for 2025.

The AMMDM-13 and ACDM-47 will provide a regional platform for ASEAN member states to collaborate on disaster risk reduction and management. The meetings aim to enhance resilience and improve preparedness through capacity building, policy dialogue, and the sharing of best practices among member nations.

Participants in the meetings will include ministers responsible for disaster management from ASEAN member states, along with representatives from the People's Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea under the AMMDM Plus mechanism. Timor-Leste will attend as an observer. The ASEAN Secretary-General, the Executive Director of the AHA Centre, senior officials from relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies, and representatives of development partners will also be in attendance.
