Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Cambodia is set to host the 38th Executive Board Meeting and the 25th General Assembly of the Veterans Confederation of ASEAN Countries (VECONAC) in October 2026. This significant event will take place in Phnom Penh, marking a noteworthy occasion for the ASEAN veterans' community.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the 7th Working Committee Meeting of VECONAC was recently held virtually on Monday morning. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Cambodian Veterans and Pensioners Association in Kean Svay district, Kandal province. It convened heads of delegations from ASEAN member countries to review, discuss, and refine key documents, meeting agendas, programme arrangements, draft resolutions, and preparatory plans for the forthcoming Executive Board Meeting and General Assembly.
The discussions during the meeting also centered around organizing substantive content and action plans to ensure the successful conduct of the regional gathering. The upcoming VECONAC meetings will serve as an important platform for representatives of veterans' associations across ASEAN to exchange views and identify common strategies aimed at improving the welfare, livelihoods, and benefits of veterans, persons with disabilities, and families of fallen soldiers throughout the region.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. General Meas Savan, who serves as the Permanent Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Veterans and Pensioners Association and the Secretary-General of VECONAC. VECONAC was established on December 19, 1980, and is composed of veterans associations from the ten ASEAN Member States.
This will be the second time that Cambodia hosts these regional events. Previously, Phnom Penh hosted the VECONAC's 32nd Executive Board Meeting and 19th General Assembly from December 8 to 12, 2019. Cambodia has taken over as VECONAC Chair since January 1, 2026, for a period of one year.
