Cambodia to Participate in 13 Sports at 33rd SEA Games Amid Withdrawal from Eight

Phnom penh: Cambodia will compete for medals in 13 sports at the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, according to a letter from H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), addressed to H.E. Dato' Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, Chief Executive Officer of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF). According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia will withdraw from eight sports. H.E. Vath Chamroeun explained that the decision was made due to significant security concerns, which pose challenges to ensuring the safety and protection of Cambodian athletes and officials. "Despite this necessary reduction, Cambodia remains committed to maintaining its participation in the sports where conditions allow safe involvement," he underlined. "We deeply appreciate the understanding and cooperation of SEAGF and THASOC (Thailand SEA Games Organising Committee)." The NOCC detailed that the 13 sports Cambodia will continue to join are: Swimming, Athletics, Esports, Fencing, Gymnasti cs, Ju-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Equestrian, Jetski, Triathlon, Teqball, and Volleyball. Conversely, Cambodia will withdraw from Judo, Karate, Pencak Silat, Petanque, Wrestling, Wushu, Football, and Sepaktakraw. The 33rd SEA Games are scheduled to take place from Dec. 9 to 20, 2025.
