Cambodian and Lao Youth Leaders Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Phnom Penh:Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the CPP Central Youth, met with H.E. Thongly Sisoulith, a member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, at the CPP headquarters on Tuesday afternoon. The discussions were part of a four-day official visit by a high-level delegation from the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit, led by H.E. Thongly Sisoulith, took place from October 5 to 8, 2026, at the invitation of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei expressed his condolences for the passing of H.E. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, recognizing him as a significant political figure who contributed greatly to the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Laos.

Samdech Thipadei warmly welcomed the Lao delegation and congratulated H.E. Thongly Sisoulith on his recent election as Secretary-General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union and as a member of the Central Committee for the 2026-2030 term. The leaders reviewed the development of relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1956, noting progress in various sectors and the elevation of their relationship to a Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership in 2019.

Marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, they emphasized the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two nations. They praised the progress achieved through the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the CPP Central Youth and the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, signed in 2025, which facilitated practical joint activities.

The leaders agreed on strategic directions for enhancing youth cooperation, including regular meetings, mutual support in human resource development, and exchanges in education, culture, sports, healthcare, digital technology, and entrepreneurship. They also planned to organize youth exchange forums and encourage joint programs in border provinces to foster peace and friendship.
