Cambodian and Thai Military Leaders Agree on Ceasefire Implementation

O' smach: The commanders of Cambodia's Military Region 4 and Thailand's Army Region 2 have reached full agreement on the ceasefire following their informal meeting this morning in O' Smach, Oddar Meanchey province, said H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, at a press briefing this afternoon.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting, which took place from 10:20 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., saw both sides acknowledge the importance of implementing the ceasefire as agreed by the Cambodian and Thai Prime Ministers in Malaysia. The Thai commander noted that decisions beyond the current military level's jurisdiction could not be made, acknowledged the role of social media in causing misunderstandings, and expressed regret over the casualties, destruction, and suffering on both sides.

Furthermore, the Cambodian commander highlighted that no troop or weapon movements should occur, except for transporting sick or wounded personnel to hospitals, with prior notification and mutual understanding to avoid confusion with military mobilisation. He also urged the Thai side to refrain from entering Cambodian territory and reaffirmed Cambodia's full respect for the ceasefire, calling for reciprocal compliance.

Both parties agreed to form a joint communication team, comprising four Cambodian and four Thai representatives, to resolve any unintentional incidents. H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata also reported positive outcomes from other bilateral meetings between Cambodian and Thai regional commanders along the border.
