Cambodian Health Ministry: Remaining Westerdam Passengers Tested Negative of COVID-19

The remaining passengers of Westerdam cruise ship in Phnom Penh capital and Preah Sihanouk province have been all tested negative of COVID-19, as of Feb. 19, 2020 at 08:00 am.

Analysis of specimens collected from 781 passengers on board the MS Westerdam cruise ship in Phnom Penh and Preah Sihanouk province done by the Institute Pasteur in Cambodia shown all negative result of the coronavirus (COVID- 19), underlined the Cambodian Ministry of Health in a press statement this morning.

Health screening indicated no signs/symptoms of the above passengers' health related concerns and they are in normal health condition without fever, it added. Up to Feb. 19, 2020, it is 19 days from the date that MS Westerdam disembarked Hong Kong.

According to the press statement, the health screening operation performed by the Ministry of Health of Cambodia has been conducted in close collaboration with the World Health Organisaiton (WHO), Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (US-CDC), Institute Pasteur in Cambodia (IPC), concerned embassies and other relevant institutions/authorities.

Based on this result, Ministry of Health and Preah Sihanouk Provincial Health Department are working with relevant national and international institutions in order to facilitate the remaining passengers in Cambodia, so that they are able to continue their journey back home as soon as possible to meet their families, and to get back to their daily work and life.

The Ministry of Health deeply appreciates the hard work of all leaders, health officials and doctors, as well as related institutions and authorities in Phnom Penh and Preah Sihanouk province in health screening operation, facilitation and coordination to assist all passengers on board the MS Westerdam ship. The Ministry of Health is continuing close collaboration with all national and international authorities until this health screening operation is completed.
