Cambodian King Urges National Unity to Support Government on Border Defense

Phnom penh: Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday urged his compatriots to remain united as one "grand Khmer family" to support the Royal Government in defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The monarch made the appeal in a royal message delivered on the occasion of the opening of the National Assembly's 6th session of the 7th legislature on July 1, 2026.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, King Sihamoni called upon all compatriots, both domestically and internationally, to unite under the spirit of loyal patriotism. He emphasized the need for citizens to fully trust and support the Royal Government in its efforts to defend Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolve border issues peacefully based on international law, and further develop the nation through state institution reforms and modernization with a people-centered approach.

In his message, the King also encouraged Cambodian citizens, particularly the youth, to fulfill their military service obligations to aid in national defense and development. He commended lawmakers for their direct engagement with citizens to understand their hardships and needs, as well as for actively promoting national unity.

Additionally, King Sihamoni praised the efforts of parliamentarians in supporting frontline defense forces and displaced persons along border provinces. He noted their commitment to peaceful, law-based responses to any external violations, demonstrating the strength of Cambodia as a peace-loving nation that rejects war and respects international law.
