Cambodian Red Cross President Delivers Aid to 5,000 Displaced Families in Preah Vihear

Samdech kittiprittpundit bun rany hun sen:amdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), this morning spearheaded a crucial humanitarian mission to Preah Vihear province, providing vital assistance to 5,000 families displaced by ongoing border conflict.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during her visit, Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen conveyed heartfelt messages of sympathy and compassion from His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, the Honorary President of the Cambodian Red Cross. She acknowledged the distress of the elderly, women, and children forced to abandon their homes, emphasising Their Majesties' concern for all displaced citizens nationwide.

Each of the 5,000 families received a comprehensive aid package designed to address immediate needs. This included 30 kilogrammes of rice, one case of instant noodles, 10 cans of fish, three bottles each of soy sauce and fish sauce, and a relief kit containing a mosquito net, krama (scarf), blanket, and sleeping mat. Hygiene essentials such as body soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste, and a toothbrush were also distributed, along with 50,000 Riel (roughly US$12.50) in cash per family.

Beyond direct family aid, Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen extended her support to Wat Por 5000 Pagoda. The pagoda received a substantial donation of 200 kilogrammes of rice, 10 cases of instant noodles, 10 kilogrammes of sugar, 5 kilogrammes of tea, 10 cases each of orange juice and bottled water, 12 kilogrammes of canned meat, and 12 kilogrammes of dried fish, along with 5 million Riel (approximately US$1,250) in cash.

Further personal donations included 2 million Riel (US$500) for the Chief of Buddhist monks of Wat Por 5000 Pagoda and 1 million Riel (US$250) for each of four monks. Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen also pledged an additional US$10,000 for the construction of a Buddha statue at the pagoda. Several prominent figures and philanthropists accompanying the delegation also contributed to the statue's construction, collectively donating funds.

To bolster ongoing humanitarian efforts in the region, the CRC President also presented 200 million Riel (US$50,000) to the Preah Vihear provincial red cross branch, ensuring continued support for displaced families.
