Phnom penh: The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence is set to lead a delegation of foreign military attach©s and diplomats stationed in Cambodia on an inspection mission to the Cambodia-Thailand border. This mission follows five days of military clashes between the two countries and the recent implementation of a ceasefire agreement brokered in Malaysia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, outlined during a press briefing in Phnom Penh that the inspection aims to demonstrate Cambodia's commitment to upholding the recent ceasefire agreement with Thailand. The spokesperson emphasized that the Ministry will organize a field mission to the border to observe the situation firsthand.
'This initiative has attracted strong interest from ASEAN military attach©s and representatives of several major powers, who have expressed support for Cambodia's peaceful approach to managing the conflict,' noted H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata.
She further stated that Cambodian armed forces continue to support the government's policy to address border issues through peaceful means and in accordance with international law. Cambodia aspires to transform its borders with neighboring countries into areas of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.
The ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand was agreed to be effective from midnight, July 28, 2025. This agreement followed a special meeting held in Malaysia, initiated by the United States and chaired by the Malaysian Prime Minister in his capacity as the rotating ASEAN Chair, with China also participating in the discussions.
