CCAC Endorses Cambodia’s Environmental Chakra Strategy

Bel©m: The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) has expressed its support for Cambodia's Chakra Strategy on Environment. This endorsement was articulated by Mrs. Martina Otto, Head of the CCAC Secretariat, during a discussion with H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, the Cambodian Minister of Environment, at the recent Climate Conference in Bel©m, Brazil.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth highlighted the Ministry of Environment's successful implementation of the "Today I Do Not Use Plastic Bags" campaign, which has engaged approximately 14 million participants across Cambodia. This initiative is part of a broader effort to tackle environmental challenges within the nation.

The Ministry is also spearheading a Carbon Neutral Community Project on an island, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from various sources such as energy usage, industrial processes, agriculture, and waste. The project emphasizes the absorption of these gases by forests, particularly mangrove forests, an area of focus noted by the minister.

Mrs. Martina Otto lauded the Ministry of Environment, under H.E. Dr. Sophalleth's leadership, for its clear strategy and comprehensive vision. She expressed support for the Carbon-Neutral Community initiative and committed to engaging with local communities to facilitate its expansion.
