Phnom penh: Cambodia's efforts following the successful conclusion of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2) will include a major diplomatic campaign to protect the country's reputation and counter allegations made against Cambodia, said H.E. Suos Yara, Chairman of the National Assembly's Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Information and Spokesperson of ISC-2.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during a press conference on the outcomes of ISC-2 in Phnom Penh on Aug. 28, H.E. Suos Yara emphasized that beyond the Phnom Penh Declaration adopted at the three-day conference, Cambodia still had significant tasks ahead. He described these tasks as a 'war to protect Cambodia's reputation.'
He noted Cambodia's success in combating online scams and highlighted the government's ongoing commitment to addressing the issue. He underscored that allegations linking Cambodia to scam activities should not be used as a pretext for aggression against the nation.
'War is not only about weapons. The war to protect our reputation is very important. They cannot destroy our reputation when we have held a global-level parliamentary speakers' conference,' H.E. Suos Yara asserted.
He further pointed out that Cambodia's effective measures against online scams demonstrated the country's proactive stance on the problem. Relevant agencies continue their efforts to eliminate scam-related activities.
H.E. Suos Yara stated that both parliamentary and governmental diplomacy would be crucial in safeguarding Cambodia's reputation and defending its legitimacy on the global stage.
He also emphasized the necessity of solidarity and coordination among Cambodia's institutions, highlighting that cooperation between the government and parliament is vital to counter a 'law of the jungle,' where stronger parties prevail over weaker ones. Institutional accountability and legal mechanisms should address such challenges.
Additionally, H.E. Suos Yara remarked that ISC-2 provided a significant platform for advocating broader parliamentary participation in observing and supporting ceasefire implementation, complementing the existing ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). This initiative aims to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and international engagement in fostering peace, accountability, and peaceful dispute resolution.
