Phnom penh: The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) has updated a high-level Japanese delegation on the current security situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border and the Royal Government's strategic response to unexploded ordnance (UXO) following recent Thai military incursions. During a consultative meeting held Wednesday at the CMAC headquarters, Director-General Heng Ratana briefed the visiting officials on the evolving challenges posed by explosive remnants of war (ERW). Discussions focused on the Royal Government of Cambodia's emergency measures to clear affected zones, ensuring the safe return of displaced civilians to their homes in the border regions.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Japanese delegation was led by Mr. Kato Yota, Director of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The group included representatives from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japanese Embassy in Phnom Penh, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
CMAC highlighted that the primary objective of the visit was to assess Cambodia's ongoing demining operations and evaluate the technical progress made in neutralising war remnants.
Japan remains a critical partner in Cambodia's mission to achieve a mine-free status, providing both financial support and advanced technical assistance to CMAC's frontline teams.
