Coca-Cola Cambodia Shifts Focus to Sustainable Farming in Displacement Camps

Phnom penh: Coca-Cola Cambodia has launched a major sustainability initiative aimed at transforming nine displacement camps into self-reliant agricultural hubs, thereby providing long-term food security for families awaiting the opportunity to return to their homes. The initiative marks a significant shift from emergency aid to sustainable community development.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the "Coca Khmer Hero" campaign is being implemented in partnership with World Vision and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. This project moves beyond traditional handouts by establishing on-site duck farms for protein and "rapid-yield" vegetable gardens across four provinces - Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meanchey - ensuring a daily supply of fresh food for those in need.

"We are committed to standing with the Cambodian people during these challenging times," said Mr. Paulo Gaspar Rodrigues, Country General Manager of the Cambodia Beverage Company. "By providing the tools for self-sufficiency, we are not just giving aid; we are building hope and vocational skills for the future."

The initiative extends beyond infrastructure by including technical training from agricultural experts. This ensures that displaced residents gain valuable skills they can take back to their home villages. To date, the company has supported over 50,000 families, evolving its mission from emergency relief to sustainable community development.
