CRC President Calls for Further Promotion of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), has urged for further enhancement of maternal, newborn and child health and that of pregnant women, along with the encouragement of all women to undergo medical checkups regularly.

In a message to her compatriots on the National Day on Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (Feb. 21) to be celebrated this year under the theme Cambodian children's health in the future, Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen said that regular health checkups of pregnant women, mothers and newborns contribute importantly to the healthy growth of newborns.

The CRC president also gave a five-point recommendation to raise the public awareness on the significance of maternal, newborn and child health.

The necessary task is to ensure that all pregnant women receive health care service from pregnancy period till child delivery and to post-child delivery period and the service continues to both mothers and their newborns after delivery, she said in the message.

Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen called on all relevant ministries and institutions, civil servants, health officers, and health service providers to support the implementation of the government's social protection policy with efficiency so as to achieve the target of reducing the maternal, infant and child mortality rate as stated in 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, she encouraged relevant institutions, both national and international, to continue supporting the maternal, newborn and child health sector in Cambodia.
