DURIAN TUNGGAL FLOOD VICTIMS GET EMERGENCY CONTRIBUTIONS FROM PM ANWAR

ALOR GAJAH, Thirteen residents of Durian Tunggal whose houses were flooded last week have received emergency assistance from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister's senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin handed over the contributions of RM500 each to the affected residents today. Also present was Durian Tunggal state assemblyman Zahari Abd Kalil. One of the recipients, Siti Khadijah Noordin, 42, said she was touched by the Prime Minister's concern as the contributions would help to ease their burden. She hoped that the residents could get to move out of the flood-prone area, saying there was one year when her house was flooded 24 times. Another recipient, housewife Hazirah Shamsudin, 42, expressed similar sentiments, saying she had to deal with flooding at least three times a year. "Given a choice, I would like to move out of this place as it has been tough dealing with the frequent flooding,' she told reporters at Kampung Bukit Balai here. In thanking An war for the contributions, Fauziah Samat, 46, said she would use the money to buy essential items. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
