Rabat: The legislative elections organized in Morocco open a new political sequence, where institutional balances evolve and citizen expectations are renewed, French geopolitics expert Emmanuel Dupuy said.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Dupuy, who was providing MAP with an analysis of the election results, underlined that this democratic practice provides an opportunity to highlight Moroccan society's deep dynamics and the evolution of the connection between citizens and political parties.
The geopolitics professor at the Catholic University in Lille noted that these elections fall within a context of renewal of political balances and diversification of the partisan offering, embodying an evolution of voters' expectations and power relations within the Moroccan political landscape.
Dupuy considers that these elections bear witness to the democratic process' ability to bring to light new political dynamics and to open new prospects to renew public debate on key issues, mainly for the Moroccan youth, including jobs and education.
On the institutional front, the election results kick off a new chapter that requires the constitution of a parliamentary majority to ensure governmental stability and to lead the next steps of public action, he pointed out.
In this regard, the French expert underlined that forming the future majority will be a key challenge in a context where political balances are evolving; hence, the need to meet citizens' expectations.
He concluded that the trends observed in Morocco are part of a broader pattern, characterized in several democracies by growing skepticism among citizens, particularly the youth, regarding the role of political parties and their ability to address their concerns.
