Escalation of Military Aggression at Cambodia-Thailand Border Intensifies

Phnom penh: The Ministry of National Defence has released a summary of recent military activities along the Cambodia-Thailand border, detailing Thailand's continued armed aggression against Cambodia's 4th and 5th Military Regions.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the situation remains tense at the 4th Military Region, encompassing Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces. The Thai military initiated heavy artillery fire into the Thmar Daun area on December 20, 2025, at 5:30pm. The following day saw an escalation, as the Thai military launched mortar rounds into the Tamone Temple area at 12:05am, followed by heavy artillery and tank fire beginning at 6:15am. The use of drones and toxic gas was reported, with the latter deployed in multiple areas, including Preah Vihear Temple, between 9:31am and 11:00am. The aggression continued with artillery, mortar, and tank attacks, alongside infantry forces and bombing drones, until 3:00pm.

In the 5th Military Region, covering Banteay Meanchey and Pursat provinces, hostilities were reported from midnight to 5:00pm on December 21, 2025. The Thai military fired shells into Boeung Trakoun at 5:50am, and reconnaissance drones violated Cambodian airspace over Prey Chan village at 6:09am. The shelling of Boeung Trakoun persisted until 10:00am, with further attacks on Prey Chan village during the morning hours. Tanks and fighter jets were deployed, targeting areas such as Boeung Pring, Phkoam commune, and Poipet city, with artillery fire continuing throughout the afternoon in various regions including Nimit commune and Chamkar Kor village.

The Cambodian armed forces remain resolute in their efforts to defend the nation's territorial integrity. They continue to monitor the situation diligently and stand prepared to counter further aggression. The Ministry of National Defence emphasizes the steadfastness of the Cambodian Army and National Police forces in their defensive operations along all battlefronts.
