EU and UK Reaffirm Commitment to Humanitarian Support and Peace Efforts

Banteay meanchey: Senior European and British diplomats have reaffirmed their countries' commitment to humanitarian support and peace efforts, during their field visit to Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province to assess the situation of communities affected by ongoing border tensions.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the European Union remains steadfast in its mission to aid Cambodians impacted by border conflicts. Mr. Andreas Berg, EU Charg© d'Affaires in Cambodia, emphasized that beyond diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation and the implementation of ceasefire agreements, the EU continues its long-term commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to affected communities. Berg highlighted the importance of ensuring that vulnerable groups, especially children, have access to quality education and a safe environment even in challenging times.

H.E. Dominic Williams, the British Ambassador to Cambodia, also participated in the field visit organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. This visit marked his second journey to Banteay Meanchey this February. Williams expressed sympathy for those affected by the tensions and reaffirmed the UK's dedication to advocating for a peaceful resolution to the border disputes. He noted that such a resolution is crucial for enabling communities in both countries to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

During their visit to Banteay Meanchey province, the delegation inspected safety centres for displaced persons and toured Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, as well as the Boeung Trakuon area.
